mad instrument #1 Wai kikorangi
The mad instrument #1 is our first mad watch creation.
The mad i#1 evolved out of my passion for wristwatches and love of the sea. "Blue water" takes inspriation from the Kai iwi lakes in the North Island of New Zealand - a collection of sand dune fresh blue water lakes that have evolved over time.
We are creating a New Zealand inspired watch that will evoke the lakes blue colourway.

First conceptual render of the mad Instrument #1 (mad i#1).
We are going with a bullhorn design (crowns at 12 oclock). This improves comfort by not having the crowns interfer with wrist movement.
- The left crown controls the GMT function.
- The right crown controls the inner rotating bezel
- The center crown controls the time setting (with hacking feature and manual wind option)
We are experimenting with bracelets and given the utility nature of the watch, will likely land on several colour options in FKM rubber.
Finishing of the 316L Surgical Stainless Steel case is looking like brushed with polished edges.
As the mad i#1 will be an affordable limited edition, we will likely have an exhibition (sapphire crystal) back to show off the mechanical movement.
